Say Hello to the New GAC Blog (and Goodbye to this one!)

While I've enjoyed using Blogger to host the Golden Age of Comic Books Podcast Blog, I've now installed a WordPress blog on my server and have moved the GAC blog to the new site. So, say goodbye to the GAC Blogger site, and hello to the new and improved GAC site at http://www.goldenagecomics.org/. All of the previous show notes from this site have already been imported to the new site along with a number of older episodes and notes that were never included here. Eventually, there will be an entry on the new blog for every episode of GAC going back to the first installment in June of 2005. The new site currently has all show notes and links to the MP3's for 2006, 2007 and 2008. The new site also has a cool embedded podcast player so you can listen to each episode with a click of the mouse.

Thanks to all of the fans who have visited over here at Blogger. I think you'll like the new site. I hope to see all of you there!

P.S. This site will remain up and running for a reasonable period of time to allow everyone to migrate over to the new site.

Golden Age of Comic Books - November 12, 2008 - #59

Welcome to the 59th episode of the Golden Age of Comic Books Podcast!  In this episode we discuss Phantom Lady, who was published by several comic book companies during the Golden Age.  She first appeared in Quality's Police Comics #1 (August, 1941) and ran until issue #23 in 1943.  Four years later, she was published by Fox Features Syndicate in her own title, Phantom Lady starting with issue #13 and ending with issue number 23.  Her run in Phantom Lady was highlighted with art by great "good girl" artisit, Matt Baker.  Baker was probably the first African American comic book artist.  After another 5 year hiatus, she was picked up by Ajax and had a four issue run of Phantom Lady.  The cover to Phantom Lady #17, shown here, is famous for being discussed by Fredric Wertham in his attack on comics in Seduction of The Innocent (1954).

First Phantom Lady story from Phantom Lady #13

We also bring back the Golden Age Market Report and discuss some Golden Age reprint material.

We also discuss Comics Now! magazine and the DC Comics Vintage Super Hero Calendar.

Last but not least, we have our first ever Golden Age of Comic Book Podcast contest, but you'll have to listed to the show to find out the details!
